What’s an End-of-Life Doula?

“Seeing death as the end of life is like seeing the horizon as the end of the ocean.”

- David Searles

An End-of-Life Doula (EOLD) provides individualized holistic support and peace of mind to individuals and their families, wherever they are on their journey. We provide non-medical professional care focusing on the practical, emotional, physical and spiritual needs of a person. We specialize in the time of life that encompasses end-of-life from before, during and after the death process.

Our services complement hospice and palliative care support. In many ways, we act as an extension of both the patient’s support network and their professional care team.

The time we spend with an individual may take place over many months or just a few hours. Our services are varied and tailored to what a person and their family may need. There is no one size fits all. We provide support in a compassionate, nonjudgmental, loving way. We “hold space” for you on your journey by listening without judgement and creating a safe space for you to share and process your feelings. We recognize death as a natural part of life that deserves the same attention and dignity as the beginning of life. We are there for you-the person. Your heart and soul lead the way for our work together.

We are a supportive presence, trusting in your innate ability to know what is best for you. We recognize that although the dying process can be extraordinarily sad, it is also one of the most profound and meaningful experiences we will all face in life. We acknowledge and embrace the honor of supporting you and your family on this sacred journey.
